Lighting

  • Keep lights low or off when not needed
  • Use low wattage incandescent light bulbs or compact florescent bulbs in place of incandescent bulbs
  • Turn off lights in any room not being used
  • Use one large incandescent bulb instead of several small bulbs where a brighter light is needed
  • Concentrate lighting in reading areas, work areas, and where lighting is needed for safety
  • Install solid-state dimmers
  • Turn three-way incandescent bulbs to lowest wattage setting when watching television
  • Turn off outdoor lights when not needed
  • Use timers, motion detectors, heat sensors, or photocell lighting controls when possible
