Beaches Energy Applies for Storm Hardening Project Grant

Notice of Intent to Submit a Grant Application to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity for Storm Hardening Project to Convert Overhead Power Lines to Underground in some areas in Jacksonville Beach and St. Johns County.

The City of Jacksonville Beach dba Beaches Energy Services plans to apply to the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity (DEO) for a grant to be funded by the Community Development Block Grant – Mitigation program (CDBG-MIT). The application will be submitted no later than September 14, 2020, which is the grant application deadline.

Grant funds will be used for improvements to the Beaches Energy Services infrastructure for Storm Hardening. The planned improvements include converting vulnerable overhead power lines and infrastructure to underground and removing aerial structures, poles and transformers. 

The project cost (and the amount of funds that will be applied for) will be approximately $ 14,000,000.00.
