Beaches Energy Services purchases its power through the Florida Municipal Power Agency (FMPA). FMPA is owned and operated by 31 municipal electric utilities, including Beaches Energy Services. The electric utilities that own FMPA provide power to over 2 million Floridians. Within the FMPA, Beaches Energy Services is a member of the All-Requirements Project (ARP) through which we jointly own and receive energy from the following generation assets: Cane Island Power Park, Stanton Energy Center, Treasure Coast Energy Center and Indian River Generating Station. Beaches Energy Services also participates in and receives energy from the St. Lucie nuclear facility located on Hutchinson Island near Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Residential electric utility rates compare very favorably to other utilities within the State of Florida and have historically remained below Florida’s average.
The Power Cost Adjustment is directly related to the cost of fuel used to generate electricity. The Power Cost Adjustment is NOT additional income for Beaches Energy Services. This is a direct pass-through expense. A large percentage of the electricity we provide to our customers is produced by clean burning natural gas.
