Home Energy Conservation
Sometimes a small change can have a big impact. Here are a few simple home energy savings tips designed to help you conserve energy and save money on your monthly utility bill.
- Keep out the daytime sun by installing awnings on the outside of your windows
- Cook and use other heat-generating appliances early in the day or late in the evening
- Make sure your home is properly insulated
- Don’t insulate over eave vents or on top of recessed lighting fixtures. Keep insulation at least 3 inches away from the sides of recessed lighting fixtures
- Properly seal all heating and cooling ducts
- Check your fireplace damper for a tight fit and keep the damper closed when the fireplace is not in use
- Weather strip doors and caulk windows
- Ensure that your home is properly ventilated
- Replace single glazed windows with double or triple-glazed windows
- Provide solar screens for east and west windows
- Leave your central heating and cooling system thermostat fan control switch in the “auto” position
